It’s not just May that’s been mad – it’s this whole year so far!
I feel as if I’ve been in a constant state of movement and momentum since the start of February.
There’s been consistency like never before in my studio production and I’ve been loving that.
So far 2014 has already seen a handful of new products emerge from the clay – vessels touched with gold, handles adorning vessels, a new series of platters and a several of customer driven products – ceramic planters and yarn bowls.
I’ve had to consider how each of these new products fall under our umbrella of ‘unique, individual and innately practical’ and I continue to refine and develop my practice, technique and studio practice.
It feels like a very exciting time. My confidence is growing. While I may have exhausted myself with long hours and rather ridiculous expectations of what I could make each day this past production run, I can only count three occasions where I ended the day doubting myself and the choice to make. It’s not easy to consistently create.
These past couple of months have illustrated how important good health is and how vital it is to have free time, space for relationships, adventure and opportunities for reflection.
My plan for the next few weeks is to tie up some loose ends – get the new products out to the stockists and uploaded to the online store, work on my existing custom orders, update the website and spend a bit of play time at wheel. I’ve also got a competition or two that I’m toying with entering and there’s quite a few ideas that I’ve sketched out but haven’t found the time to create yet. I’m also looking forward to seeing some family next weekend and have a few projects around the house that I want to attend to – getting into the garden, making new curtains and perfecting my butter chicken recipe. Maybe its the cooler weather but suddenly I have the urge to make our home a little bit cozier as we seem to be spending more time indoors.
If there is anything you’d like to know more about – process related, idea creation, glazing techniques or Alias trivia, let me know and I’d be very happy to share that in a new post for you.
With a big smile for you, Rachel.
